Nalbuphine
General properties
Analgesics. Opioids. Morphine derivatives.
Nalbuphine, solution for injections, is intended for the treatment of pain syndrome, which is strong enough for the use of opioid analgesics and for which alternative treatment methods are considered to be ineffective. Nalbuphine is also recommended as an additional therapy in mixed anaesthesia for the purpose of preoperative and postoperative anaesthesia, as well as for labor pain relief.
Restricted use
Due to the risk of addiction, abuse and misuse associated with opioid analgesics, even when they are taken in recommended doses (see the section “Peculiarities of Use”), the use of Nalbuphine, solution for injections should be restricted to the patients who have alternative treatment options (for example, non-opioid analgesics):
- related to intolerance or suspected intolerance;
- no adequate anaesthesia or no adequate analgesic effect is expected when administered.
Nalbuphine is contraindicated in patients with:
- increased sensitivity to nalbuphine hydrochloride or to any of excipients of the medicinal product;
- known or suspected obstruction of the gastrointestinal tract, including paralytic intestinal obstruction (see the section “Peculiarities of Use”);
- acute abdominal pain with suspected appendicitis or pancreatitis;
- severe respiratory depression or severe central nervous system depression, increased intracranial pressure, head trauma, acute alcohol poisoning, alcoholic delirium, convulsions (see the section “Peculiarities of Use”);
- acute or severe bronchial asthma, chronic obstruction of the respiratory tract or asthmatic status (see the section “Peculiarities of Use”);
- acute respiratory failure, increased level of carbon dioxide in the blood, pulmonary heart.
- simultaneous use of monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors or the use of nalbuphine within 14 days after withdrawal of MAO inhibitors.
Do not use for mild pain that can be treated with other analgetic agents.
Contraindicated for the use by pregnant and breastfeeding women.
Pharmaceutical characteristics
Store in the original packaging at a temperature of not higher than 25°C. Keep out of reach of children.
